While many of Golduck's sets are solely focused on its capacity to check weather teams courtesy of its ability, Cloud Nine, Golduck's great movepool, above average Special Attack, and access to Calm Mind make it a formidable sweeper as well. Golduck's unique ability to overpower some of the most common UU Pokemon, while at the same time checking many common weather sweepers, makes it a great choice for offensively inclined teams.
Calm Mind is what sets Golduck apart from other offensive Water-type sweepers such as Milotic. After one use, it boosts Golduck's Special Attack stat to 433. Keep in mind that Calm Mind does not have to be used immediately. In fact, concealing Calm Mind until the opportune moment is a much wiser option. Surf is the first choice for a STAB move due to its reliability and decent power. However, the power increase provided by Hydro Pump is welcome, especially when Golduck is operating without a Calm Mind boost. Ice Beam and Hidden Power Grass allow Golduck to hit all of UU, excluding Shedinja, for at least neutral damage, while hitting Grass-, Flying-, and Water-types who can potentially impede Golduck's sweep super effectively. Hidden Power Grass helps Golduck better check rain teams because it hits rain sweepers Kabutops and Omastar for 4x damage.Nome Moveset Strumento Abilitŕ Natura Encore Weather Counter Avanzi Antimeteo Timida Mosse EVs ~ Ripeti

Golduck, an otherwise decidedly mediocre Pokemon, has two things that set him firmly apart from the many other similarly molded Water-types: his Cloud Nine ability and access to Encore. This set combines both and turns Golduck into a very versatile Pokemon who can fit on many different team types, in particular those which have trouble dealing with opposing weather teams.
Cloud Nine is a brilliant ability which effectively negates every effect weather has in battle, from boosting the power of Water-type moves in rain to the Speed-doubling effect of Chlorophyll in sun. Clearly this gives Golduck a great niche in UU as a one-Pokemon answer to rain and sun sweepers alike. Encore allows Golduck to pull his weight in battles against non-weather teams, and with his good base 85 Speed, he can come in on a predicted ineffective move and force the opponent to repeat it, shifting the momentum of the battle in your favor.
The other three slots are coverage moves which allow Golduck to inflict good damage on a wide range of foes. Hidden Power Grass is especially helpful on this set as it allows a quick, clean OHKO on Kabutops and Omastar, two common rain sweepers, as well as Quagsire. Ice Beam is a reliable choice for the last slot, but if you are looking to make Golduck an even surer answer to weather teams, Signal Beam can be used to hit Ludicolo and Snover harder than any of his other attacks. It is also a stronger option against Slowbro/king as well. Another option is Psychic, which gets super effective hits on Qwilfish, Toxicroak, and Venusaur, all of whom take little from Surf and Hidden Power Grass.Nome Moveset Strumento Abilitŕ Natura Choice Specs Lentiscelta Antimeteo Timida Mosse EVs ~ Surf/ Idropompa

With Choice Specs, Golduck has a respectable Special Attack stat to play around with. Hidden Power covers other Water-types, with Grass more useful against Quagsire and Lanturn and Electric as the better option for Mantine. The last slot helps with type coverage. Psychic hurts Tentacruel and easily KOs Toxicroak. Mud Bomb is rather weak, but it does cover Tentacruel, Toxicroak, and Lanturn in one move. You could use Focus Blast, but the coverage it offers does not really help more than the other options. Still, it has a high enough Base Power to be considered and will dent the likes of Quagsire and Lanturn if you lack the correct Hidden Power.Nome Moveset Strumento Abilitŕ Natura Mixed Attacker Avanzi/ Assorbisfera Antimeteo Mite Mosse EVs ~ Surf/ Idropompa

Nothing exceptional here, but this is Golduck's best option to operate effectively in OU. Golduck is punching above his weight in OU, but with some accurate prediction, this can be effective against a wide range of opponents. Surf and Hydro Pump hammer Ground-types like Hippowdon and Donphan and also hurts Skarmory, Forretress and Weezing badly. Blissey, Snorlax and Empoleon will hate switching into a Cross Chop, while Ice Beam covers those ever present Dragons. In the last slot you can choose between Hypnosis for sleep support or Hidden Power Electric to take down Gyarados in two hits. Psychic is an option to OHKO Gengar (with Life Orb) and 2HKO Heracross.
Leftovers is the safer choice, but Golduck really needs the extra power Life Orb provides, and as such is the recommended item choice.Altre Opzioni
Confuse Ray and Yawn can be used to help force switches, though Yawn is usually wasted on a Pokémon who can utilize Hypnosis. His other physical options (Waterfall, Ice Punch, Zen Headbutt) can be ignored as he has more powerful special equivalents.
Damp should only be considered for 2v2 battles.EVs
Use some Speed, heavy amounts of Special Attack, with the rest in HP or Attack.Considerazioni
Golduck doesn’t do anything exceptionally well, and has average stats all around. Cloud Nine is very useful in UU to help shut down Swift Swim and Chlorophyll Pokemon, while in OU it stops Golduck taking damage from sandstorm and hail. It also means he can whack Rock-types with full powered Surfs, as their Special Defense boost will be negated. Unfortunately, none of Golduck’s other perks help justify his usefulness in OU where the Sand Streamers and Abomasnow reside, so it will rarely get a chance to demonstrate that. Obviously, Rayquaza has the weather nullification covered in Ubers.
Golduck will stay securely in UU, where it has always been a consistent, albeit unspectacular, member of any team.Counters
Golduck struggles against other Water-types most of the time. Lack of a solid Ground move means its not about to tangle with Electrics any time soon, although Ice attacks give it a chance against Grassers.
In UU, Hypno poses a problem as it cannot be put to sleep and has good Special Defense. Manectric will scare you away in a second, although Golduck can easily out speed any Luxray or Ampharos. Lanturn, Quagsire and Gastrodon also pose a problem if Golduck isn’t touting Hidden Power Grass. Again, when fighting against another Water-type, Golduck is likely to struggle. Toxicroak is a problem if Golduck doesn't carry Psychic.
