This set is designed to set up Stealth Rock as quickly as possible. Tricking a Choice Scarf can cripple bulky leads like Uxie and lets Mesprit deal with defensive stat-uppers later in the game. U-turn allows Mesprit to escape the battle if it cannot handle the situation; it also has enough power to break Raikou's Substitute.

Stealth Rock is one of the deadliest support moves in the game; with Mesprit setting up Stealth Rock, opponents like Moltres and Altaria lose large amounts of health upon switching in. Trick allows Mesprit to cripple walls such as Registeel and Chansey by giving them a useless Choice Scarf. U-turn lets Mesprit escape from battle while hitting Dark-types as well as opposing Psychic-types super effectively. Finally, Zen Headbutt gives Mesprit a solid STAB attack and allows it to hit Venusaur and Blaziken, two of UU's biggest offensive threats.

204 Attack EVs allow Mesprit to break Raikou's Substitute with U-turn. Max Speed is needed to tie with base 80 Pokémon who run a positive nature and 252 EVs. The remaining EVs are placed into HP to allow Mesprit to take hits better.

Set up sweepers can take advantage of crippled opponents by switching in on a resisted move and gaining a free stat boost or two. Rock Polish Aggron makes a great choice as it can freely switch into the Bug- and Dark-type Pokémon with whom Mesprit has trouble. Calm Mind Raikou is another excellent option as it can use Substitute as the opponent switches, which lets it set up at least one Calm Mind while the opponent attempts to break its Substitute.

Dugtrio makes another great partner for Mesprit. Many Pokemon who would love to set up on Mesprit's Psychic attacks, such as Registeel, Houndoom, and Drapion, are weak to Ground-type attacks, which means U-turning to Dugtrio is an easy way to dispatch them. This combination also places Raikou into a rare lose-lose situation, even if it has a Substitute up. If it stays in on Mesprit and either Thunderbolts or Calm Minds, U-turn will break its Substitute and Dugtrio will have a free kill. If Raikou switches, then Mesprit can U-turn to something that counters whatever just came in. However, Raikou will rarely switch out with an intact Substitute, which means this can be an effective way to eliminate a very dangerous sweeper.

The main goal of this set is to set up Stealth Rock and U-turn to another teammate. Stealth Rock allows Mesprit to support its team, making users of Focus Sash useless while also stripping Moltres of 50% of its health. U-turn allows Mesprit to escape battle and bring in a counter to the opponent's Pokémon, while also doing large amounts of damage to Dark- and Psychic-types. STAB Psychic allows Mesprit to hit opponents for decent power coming from base 105 Special Attack. Grass Knot allows Mesprit to OHKO the standard Rhyperior, assuming it stays in to set up.

Maximum HP is needed to give Mesprit excellent defensive abilities, allowing it to survive powerful hits with little trouble. 96 Attack EVs allows Mesprit to always break Raikou's Substitute with U-turn. The remaining EVs are placed into Special Attack, which allows Mesprit to 2HKO the most bulky Froslass lead.

Spiritomb leads cause Mesprit major problems as they can attack with Shadow Ball for super effective damage or catch Mesprit trying to escape with Pursuit. Blaziken makes an excellent partner for Mesprit, as it has an immunity to Will-O-Wisp and takes neutral damage from anything Spiritomb commonly uses; it must be careful not to switch into Spell Tag-boosted Shadow Balls, though. Fire Blast will do large amounts of damage to any lead Spiritomb, as most of them are offensive versions. Dark-types in general can trouble Mesprit, and Blaziken can hit them super effectively with Superpower.

Powerful sweepers appreciate Stealth Rock on the field as it can make the difference between an OHKO and 2HKO. Again, Blaziken makes an excellent example, as it is able to use its mixed sweeping capabilities to open up major holes in the opponent's team. Other examples include Swords Dance Drapion and Calm Mind Raikou.

This set is played differently from the previous set. The goal is to cripple an opponent's Pokémon or support your own teammates with Reflect. Stealth Rock is probably Mesprit's best support option as it can make the difference between an OHKO and a 2HKO for Mesprit's sweeper teammates. This set is to be played more offensively than the above set, hitting many of UU's more powerful threats, such as Venusaur and Blaziken, with Psychic. Ice Beam and Thunderbolt are both good options to give great type coverage and hit threats such as Altaria (Ice Beam) and Moltres (Thunderbolt) harder.

Thunder Wave allows Mesprit to cripple fast sweepers like Drapion and Houndoom, Reflect allows it to weaken oncoming physical moves, and Knock Off allows it to remove opponent's items, which could potentially make them less of a threat. Stealth Rock allows you to damage Pokémon switching in and ruin Focus Sash users.

The 164 Speed EVs allow Mesprit to outrun all neutral natured base 80 Pokémon, most notably Blaziken and Venusaur. Maximum HP EVs give Mesprit bulk and allow it to take repeated hits with ease. The remaining EVs are placed into Special Attack, giving Mesprit's attacking moves more power behind them.

Fighting-types such as Hitmonlee or Hitmontop are great options to pair with Mesprit as they are able to remove dangerous Dark-type opponents from play. Houndoom and Absol both fall to Mach Punch, while Earthquake is able to remove Drapion. Fighting-types also appreciate Stealth Rock support (which makes it harder for Flying Pokemon to wall them), and the removal of Poison-types such as Venusaur.

Feraligatr makes another excellent partner as it appreciates the removal of bulky Grass-types like Venusaur and Tangrowth. Feraligatr can also take out Houndoom with Aqua Jet. Without the fear of being KOed, Feraligatr is able to set up with Swords Dance and sweep the opponent's team with little difficulty.

Mesprit is a great Pokemon to set up weather for dangerous sweepers due to its decent Speed stat and good bulk. At first glance, Mesprit may seem completely outclassed by Uxie, who has a higher Speed stat along with more bulk. However, Mesprit has access to Healing Wish, while Uxie doesn't, making Mesprit a good weather supporter. Rain Dance and Sunny Day are the most important moves of the set, as they allow Pokemon with Swift Swim and Chlorophyll to sweep much more easily. Offensively, Psychic is a good STAB move to hurt the opponent. Zen Headbutt is also a good option, since it can break Mismagius's Substitutes and prevent it from setting up Calm Mind or Nasty Plot. Both of these moves destroy Toxicroak, a real problem for Rain Dance sweepers. Grass Knot allows Mesprit to hit Rhyperior, Lanturn, and Milotic hard. Mesprit can also provide Stealth Rock support, which can help your sweepers clean up easier. If Zen Headbutt is used, then U-turn is also a good option, as it allows Mesprit to escape from common Taunt users, such as Alakazam, while breaking their Focus Sashes along the way. The last move is Healing Wish, which allows Mesprit to completely heal a weakened Pokemon at the cost of Mesprit's life and give that sweeper more chances to sweep through the opponent's team.

Psychic pairs up with Grass Knot or Stealth Rock well, while U-turn should be chosen along with Zen Headbutt. If Zen Headbutt and U-turn are used, then Mesprit should have a Jolly and shift the Special Attack EVs into Attack. Pokemon with the abilities Swift Swim or Chlorophyll, such as Kabutops and Qwilfish or Tangrowth and Exeggutor, are required teammates depending on the weather that is set up. Thunder is a good option if Mesprit is setting up Rain Dance, since it can hit some Water-type Pokemon harder than Grass Knot. Additionally, the chance of paralysis is welcome so that your sweepers have a chance of not being counterattacked. Dark-type Pokemon such as Absol and Spiritomb, who may use Pursuit while Mesprit is trying to escape, counter Mesprit. Having Pokemon who benefit from the weather that Mesprit has set up and resist Pursuit are helpful; Toxicroak (for rain) and Shiftry (for sun) are great examples of this.

With great defenses and a Speed stat of 148, Mesprit is a natural candidate for the role of setting up Trick Room. However, what really sets Mesprit apart from other Trick Room users, such as Uxie, is its ability to sweep under this effect as well. While Mesprit performs better on teams completely based around Trick Room, as it's is durable enough to set it up multiple times throughout the match, it can be used on all kinds of teams in need of a defensive pivot and mid- to late-game sweeper.

Ice Beam and Thunderbolt are the crux of this set, creating the infamous BoltBeam combo, which hits a good part of the metagame for super effective damage and is only resisted by Magneton, Lanturn, and Shedinja in UU. Psychic rounds off this set’s coverage as a solid STAB move that hits Poison- and Fighting-types for super effective damage while also being a great weapon against Pokemon that are hit for neutral damage by the aforementioned BoltBeam combination, such as Rotom and Arcanine. However, because this set does a very good job at supporting other teammates, one can forgo Psychic and use U-turn in order to allow Mesprit to act as a scout and help other sweepers come in unscathed.

Despite the EVs on this set being straightforward, they can be tailored according to specific team needs. If Mesprit is running U-turn, an EV spread of 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 Spe with a Timid nature is advisable, as it allows Mesprit to move after a significant amount of its opponents under Trick Room's effects; this enables one of its teammates to come in unharmed. Running a more defensive spread is yet another option if one wants Mesprit to stay around a bit longer to support its team, but that job is usually better left to Uxie, who has much higher defensive stats and superior Speed to abuse U-turn. Regarding the item of choice, Expert Belt is the preferred option, as it takes full advantage of Mesprit’s amazing super effective coverage without compromising its bulk like Life Orb would. Leftovers is a good alternative, especially if Mesprit’s main focus is support, where the added longevity is appreciated.

This set is stopped cold by the premier special walls of the tier, Registeel and Chansey, as well as specially defensive Spiritomb and Arcanine. As such, one should pair Mesprit with Pokemon that can easily get past the aforementioned threats. Marowak and Rhyperior are great choices for that role, as Trick Room rectifies their awful Speed stats, allowing them to have a much easier time sweeping. Dugtrio is another good option, as it can trap and KO most of the above Pokemon; however, one should be careful about using the two of them in conjunction, as Trick Room severely hampers Dugtrio’s main perk, its Speed. If Mesprit is used as a self-sustaining sweeper, Omastar and Cloyster are great options for partners, as they can provide Mesprit with Spikes support, the effectiveness of which is further enhanced by the fact that most of the pixie’s counters are grounded.

With its high Special Attack and decent Speed, Mesprit makes a great candidate for a Calm Mind set. Psychic and Ice Beam give near-perfect type coverage, hitting most Pokémon in UU for neutral damage. Substitute grants Mesprit safety from status moves while Hidden Power Ground lets it hit the Steel-types that resist both Psychic and Ice. If using Substitute, Leftovers becomes the preferred hold item, since the HP loss from Substitute and Life Orb recoil will greatly decrease Mesprit's chances of sweeping.

Calm Mind allows Mesprit to raise its special stats to insane levels, allowing it to deal great damage to anything not named Chansey. Psychic allows you to hit Poison- and Fighting-types, Venusaur and Blaziken being the most prominent. Ice Beam hits Altaria, Torterra, and Donphan for major amounts of damage, while also giving near-perfect coverage alongside Psychic. Substitute gives Mesprit safety from status moves.

The Speed EVs on this set allow Mesprit to tie with positive base 80 Pokémon running 252 EVs in Speed, such as Venusaur and Blaziken. Max Special Attack is a must as it allows Mesprit to deal powerful hits to the opponent. The remaining EVs are placed into HP, giving Mesprit a small amount of bulk.

Fighting-types such as Hitmontop, Hitmonlee, and Hariyama fare well against Dark-types such as Absol and Drapion, both of which are deadly to Mesprit as they have the combination of Night Slash and Pursuit available to them. These Pokemon can also switch in relatively easily against Chansey (who walls this set) and start unleashing high-powered attacks.

Support from Reflect or Will-O-Wisp is helpful for this set as it gives Mesprit time to set up more boosts with Calm Mind without being completely physically vulnerable. Weezing is a great option to utilize Will-O-Wisp as it only has one weakness and a great Defense stat. Defensive Arcanine can use Intimidate and Will-O-Wisp to buffer hits from Pokemon like Absol, and has access to Morning Sun to heal itself (while Weezing must depend on Pain Split or Rest). Clefable a great option to set up Reflect as it also has access to Encore, which is able to cripple Pokémon who use boosting or support moves.

This set sets Mesprit apart from other Psychic-types like Slowbro and Uxie; with a respectable base 105 Attack and a decent movepool, this can be a nasty surprise to those expecting special sets. Zen Headbutt gives Mesprit a reliable physical STAB move use, scoring super effective hits against the likes of Weezing and Venusaur. Trick allows Mesprit to cripple walls, such as Slowbro and Claydol, who take little damage from Mesprit's attacks. Fire Punch is listed as it allows it to deal decent damage to Tangrowth, Registeel, and Steelix. Ice Punch is noted in the final slot as it gives Mesprit more power against opponents like Altaria and Torterra, hitting both threats for 4x super effective damage.

The EVs listed are primarily used for Mesprit with a Choice Scarf. 212 EVs and an Adamant nature allow Mesprit to reach 373 Speed, which lets it outpace non-Scarfed Alakazam and KO with U-turn. Max Attack EVs are a must as Mesprit wants some force behind its attacks. The remaining EVs are placed into HP to give Mesprit a little bulk. If using a Choice Band, a Jolly nature with a spread of 56 HP / 252 Atk / 200 Spe allows Mesprit to outspeed neutral natured base 85 Speed Pokémon.

Houndoom makes a great offensive partner for this set as it can deal with pesky Psychic-types, such as Slowbro and Claydol, with STAB Dark Pulse. Since Mesprit is crippled by Will-O-Wisp, Houndoom again gets a mention for being able to switch in and net a boost from Flash Fire. The main users of Will-O-Wisp in the UU tier have trouble with Houndoom; Mismagius takes large amounts of damage from Dark Pulse, while Weezing is OHKOed by Fire Blast after a boost from Flash Fire.

Dark-types cause problems for Mesprit as they are able to switch into Zen Headbutt and threaten Mesprit with Pursuit or Night Slash. It may seem strange due to the additional Ghost and Dark weakness, but a Mismagius with Substitute and Will-O-Wisp can lure out these Pokémon and lower their Attack with a burn. Substitute is suggested so Mismagius isn't KOed when switching against or burning the opponent. The usual Fighting-type Pokemon can switch easily into Dark attacks and strike back with Close Combat.

Similar to the set above, Mesprit utilizes Choice items to raise its Speed or offensive stats. Great type coverage makes Mesprit ideal for a Choice set. Using the BoltBeam combination and Psychic allows Mesprit to hit everything besides Magneton and Shedinja in UU for neutral or super effective damage. Psychic is Mesprit's most powerful STAB move, able to deal with Pokémon such as Venusaur and Blaziken. Ice Beam is listed to give great type coverage and hit Altaria, Tangrowth, and Donphan super effectively. Thunderbolt allows you to hit Moltres and Feraligatr for super effective damage. The final slot allows Mesprit to cripple potential counters, such as Clefable and Chansey, with Trick.

When using Choice Scarf, 240 EVs and a Modest nature is recommended as it allows Mesprit to reach 384 Speed, outrunning Swellow and enabling it to KO it with Ice Beam or Thunderbolt. Max Special Attack EVs are vital as Mesprit wants as much power as possible. The remaining EVs are placed into HP to give Mesprit a little bulk. If you wish to use Choice Specs, a Timid nature is recommended with a spread of 56 HP / 252 SpA / 200 Spe, which allows it to outspeed neutral natured base 85 Speed Pokémon.

Chansey causes problems for this set, being able to switch in on any special-based attacks without taking a lot of damage. To deal with Chansey, a powerful physical sweeper such as Hitmonlee is a good choice to use as a partner as it is able to KO her with super effective STAB Close Combats. Dark-types are the biggest threat for Mesprit as they can hit it with super effective attacks and Pursuit as it switches out. Hitmonlee also helps deal with this problem.

Using a Chansey of your own is an option as this set is completely walled by Magneton, though you should be cautious of Explosion. Another option to deal with Magneton in Camerupt, who resists everything Magneton can throw at it while being able to KO it back with a STAB Fire- or Ground-type move.

This set is designed to KO dangerous OU sweepers such as Gyarados, Dragonite, and Infernape. Even without Special Attack EVs Mesprit is able to OHKO all 4 HP / 0 SpD Gyarados with Thunderbolt after Stealth Rock damage, all offensive Dragonite and Flygon with Ice Beam, and all Naive Infernape with Psychic. The EVs ensure that you never get KOed by these threats in return.

Thunder Wave is the best option in the final slot as it gives Mesprit the chance to cripple faster sweepers and KO them on the following turn. Stealth Rock is another useful option, as it allows Mesprit to score a OHKO on Gyarados when it decides to switch in, and it also renders any Focus Sashes useless. U-turn allows Mesprit to escape an oncoming Tyranitar or Scizor before they are able to severely damage it with Pursuit.

The EVs on this set are specialized to take hits as well as possible. Max HP is vital as it allows Mesprit to survive even boosted assaults from the most powerful OU sweepers. 180 Defense EVs ensure that Mesprit survives a +2 offensive Gyarados's Waterfall 100% of the time, and it also allows Mesprit to survive a +1 Outrage from Dragon Dance Dragonite. 76 EVs in Special Defense allow Mesprit to survive a standard Life Orb Gengar's Shadow Ball most of the time. This is shown in the damage calculations below, along with more OU threats included.
    +2 252 Atk Adamant Gyarados + Life Orb Waterfall vs 252 HP / 180 Def = 73% - 87%
    +1 232 Atk Naive Salamence + Life Orb Outrage vs 252 HP / 180 Def = 78% - 92%
    252 SpA Rash Salamence + Life Orb Draco Meteor vs 252 HP / 76 SpD = 71% - 84%
    252 SpA Timid Gengar + Life Orb Shadow Ball vs 252 HP / 76 SpD = 84% - 99%
    252 Atk Adamant Machamp + Leftovers Payback vs 252 HP / 180 Def = 49% - 58%
    252 Atk Jolly Flygon + Choice Scarf Outrage vs 252 HP / 180 Def = 33% - 40%

Stealth Rock support is helpful if Mesprit decides to not run it. Forretress makes a fine choice as it is able to switch in against Bug-, Ghost-, and Dark-type moves, while it is also able to remove entry hazards from Mesprit's side of the field. Stealth Rock is necessary to OHKO Gyarados after it switches in.

Support from Wish is a massive help to Mesprit as it is unable to restore its health outside of Leftovers and Rest. Vaporeon is a great choice to do this as it has a huge HP stat and decent defenses. Blissey is another fine choice as she can switch in on Ghost-type moves with an immunity and threaten them with Thunder Wave. Mesprit and Blissey are a great defensive combination as they are able to switch in on each other's weaknesses. For example, Mesprit is able to switch in on Fighting-type moves that Blissey cannot handle.

Mesprit makes an excellent user of Trick Room in OU due to its below average Speed and brilliant defensive stats. This set retains the ability to remove Gyarados, Dragonite, and Infernape with little trouble, while also allowing Mesprit to set up Trick Room and support slower members of its team. Thunder Wave isn't an option on this set as it will make the opponent slower than you, allowing them to outspeed Mesprit in Trick Room conditions.

Trick Room allows Mesprit to support slow teammates. Thunderbolt and Ice Beam create the infamous BoltBeam combination, giving great type coverage and being resisted by only Magnezone in OU. If Infernape or Gengar cause problems to your team, Psychic is the better option. U-turn allows Mesprit to escape the battle and scout oncoming attacks, as well as potentially bringing in a sweeper unharmed.

The EVs on this set are the same as the above as they allow Mesprit to survive powerful boosted hits while being able to set up Trick Room for teammates. If you decide to use U-turn over Psychic, an alternative spread is recommended. 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe with a Timid nature allows Mesprit to move after most opponents, allowing the switch-in to come in unharmed.

Wish support is helpful here as it allows Mesprit to switch in and set up Trick Room multiple times. Vaporeon is a great teammate for this as it can switch in on Water-type moves with an immunity and support the team with Wish. Its low Speed is helpful too as it allows you to use Wish before taking a hit.

As this set is designed for Trick Room, slow and powerful teammates are recommended. Metagross, Snorlax, and Magnezone make great choices as they all pose a significant threat in the OU tier. Metagross is able to rip holes in the opponent's team with STAB boosted Meteor Mash and a powerful Explosion. Snorlax is a great tank for Trick Room teams as it can set up Curse and batter the opponent with boosted Body Slam and Crunch. Magnezone, on the other hand, attacks from the special side. If Blissey decides to come in and wall you, Magnezone is free to use Explosion in her face.

Steel-types are good partners as they can switch in on Dark- and Bug-type moves aimed at Mesprit. Magnezone makes an excellent teammate with its typing and good defensive stats. A huge Special Attack stat will allow it to switch in on resisted moves and force its way through your opponent's team with STAB Thunderbolt. Magnezone also has the bonus of Magnet Pull, allowing it to trap Scizor and OHKO it with Hidden Power Fire.

A great special movepool and high Special Attack make Mesprit an excellent revenge killer. 184 Speed EVs and a Choice Scarf allow Mesprit to outrun common OU threats such as Gengar and Dragonite, while it is able to OHKO them with a super effective move. Psychic is used as a reliable STAB move that hits Gengar and Machamp super effectively. Ice Beam will OHKO Dragonite and Flygon, while dealing huge damage to Celebi and Ground-types. Thunderbolt OHKOes Gyarados, and it also provides excellent type coverage alongside Ice Beam. U-turn allows Mesprit to scout Pursuit users switching in and gain information about the opponent's team. Hidden Power Fire allows Mesprit to hit Scizor super effectively upon its switch-in.

184 Speed EVs give Mesprit 363 Speed, which allows it to outrun positive natured base 115 Pokemon. Max Special Attack is vital for Mesprit to deal as much damage as possible. The remaining EVs are placed into HP, giving Mesprit a little bulk. When using Hidden Power Fire, an extra 4 EVs should be placed into Speed to negate the lower Speed iv required.

As this set removes common threats such as Dragonite, Gyarados, Gengar, and Infernape, set-up sweepers have an easier time boosting their stats without the risk of being KOed. Dragon Dance Tyranitar is an option as Infernape and Dragonite are unable to hit it with Close Combat or Earthquake. A Babiri Berry is recommended however, due to the common usage of Scizor. Dragon Dance Kingdra is another option, as Mesprit is able to remove Dragonite from play. After a few boosts from Dragon Dance, Kingdra will be deadly with Outrage and Waterfall.

    Opzioni Team

    UU

Mesprit appreciates support from Wish as it is unable to recover by itself. Umbreon makes a good choice as it resists Ghost- and Dark-type moves and has great defenses. Umbreon can also cripple Mesprit's counters with Yawn or Toxic.

Steel- and Dark-types cause problems for Mesprit as they are able to wall Mesprit's moves. Hitmonlee is a great choice to remove these threats as it has STAB Close Combat and Mach Punch to defeat them. Stone Edge is helpful for hitting Bug-types. Earthquake is available to hit Drapion super effectively.

Registeel is a great defensive partner for Mesprit as it can switch in on Bug- and Dark-types without trouble and proceed to paralyze them with Thunder Wave. Also, Mesprit is able to switch in on Fighting- and Ground-type moves aimed at Registeel. This pair allows you to attack from both sides while crippling opponents with moves such as Trick, Thunder Wave, and Stealth Rock.

    OU

With the removal of Gyarados, Dragonite, and Gengar, Fighting-types such as Lucario and Infernape are able to set up without the fear of being KOed. After a boost from Swords Dance, Lucario will be almost unstoppable. Threats such as Tyranitar, Scizor, and Weavile will all be OHKOed by Close Combat and Crunch. Infernape is a great option as it can attack from both sides of the spectrum, allowing it to defeat Rotom-A with Fire Blast, Swampert with Grass Knot, and Blissey with Close Combat.

As mentioned before, Blissey is a great partner for Mesprit as she is able to set up Stealth Rock, support Mesprit with Wish, and cripple dangerous opponents with Thunder Wave or Toxic. Blissey and Mesprit also have great synergy; Mesprit is able to switch in on physically-based opponents that threaten to KO Blissey, while in return Blissey is able to switch in on specially-based opponents.

Jirachi is another good partner for Mesprit as it can switch in on Bug- and Dark-type moves with its high defensive stats and threaten to Trick the opponent and give them a useless Choice item. Jirachi is also useful for providing Wish support.

Magnezone is an option as it can switch into Scizor's Bullet Punch and trap it with Magnet Pull. Magnezone can then take out Scizor with Hidden Power Fire or damage it with Thunderbolt. If you are using Mesprit as a Trick Room supporter, you can run a negative Speed nature along with 0 Speed IVs, which allows Magnezone to be faster than almost all of the OU tier.

    Considerazioni

    UU

Mesprit has an amazing movepool, including the great attacking combination of BoltBeam and many support options such as Stealth Rock. It differentiates itself from Uxie with superior offensive stats and an improved physical and special movepool along with slightly higher base HP, but also has a lower base Speed. However, Mesprit's lack of a reliable recovery move outside of Rest is its major downfall.

    OU

BoltBeam and Psychic provide outstanding type coverage, allowing Mesprit to check some of the biggest threats in OU. High defensive stats allow it to take powerful hits, while above average offensive stats allow Mesprit to deal back decent amounts of damage. Mesprit is able to deal with threats such as Gyarados, Dragonite, Flygon, and Infernape with its great type coverage. Mesprit's only major downfall is the lack of a reliable recovery move outside of Rest. Wish support is always recommended due to Mesprit having to deal with such powerful hits.

    Scelte Opzionali

    UU

Since Mesprit has such a wide movepool, there are so many viable options it can use. Charm is great for lowering a physical sweeper's Attack stat, forcing them to use weakened attacks or switch out. Magic Coat is helpful for bouncing back nasty status moves that can cripple Mesprit. Trick Room is a great option with Mesprit's great defensive stats and access to U-turn; using a negative Speed nature with a low Speed IV will make Mesprit slower than many Pokémon in the UU tier. Healing Wish is helpful when setting up screens as it can replenish a weakened teammate's health, although it comes at the cost of Mesprit's life. ThunderPunch is an option on the Physical Choice set as it can hit bulky Water-types, such as Slowbro, for super effective damage.

    OU

Mesprit has an amazing movepool; there are many options to consider. Reflect and Light Screen allow Mesprit to support its teammates while weakening attacks aimed at it. Healing Wish is somewhat risky, but allows Mesprit to restore the health of a deadly sweeper, which opponents may be unable to handle a second assault from. This move may be tempting but the exchange of Mesprit's life is a big turn off. Magic Coat can cripple opponents that try to status Mesprit, which is helpful in OU as many Vaporeon and Blissey use Toxic. Finally, Grass Knot is usable if you lack a way to remove Swampert, but this limits Mesprit's type coverage.

    Counters

    UU

Mesprit isn't an easy Pokémon to counter due to its mixed offensive stats and great movepool; it is able to use any combination of attacks.

Chansey can counter most of Mesprit's special sets; with her mammoth HP stat and great Special Defense she is able to survive boosted special moves with ease. Chansey can also cripple Mesprit with Toxic or Thunder Wave while weakening it with Seismic Toss. Chansey needs to be careful of Trick, however, as being stuck with a Choice item can make walling much more difficult.

With good prediction, Dark-types are able to switch in on Psychic or Zen Headbutt with an immunity and threaten to damage Mesprit with powerful STAB moves. Houndoom is the best option as it's able to attack from the special side, and Mesprit rarely invests in Special Defense. It also boasts a resistance to Mesprit's Ice-type attacks, giving it more opportunities to switch in than other Dark-types.

Calm Mind Spiritomb is a solid counter to Mesprit as it has an immunity to Psychic moves, while it can set up against unSTABed moves that barely scratch Spiritomb. If Mesprit stays in, it faces a hit from a boosted Dark Pulse or becoming set up fodder. Spiritomb should be careful of Trick. Physical Spiritomb (especially Choice Band variants) is also a threat since it doesn't mind receiving a Choice item, while it threatens Mesprit with Pursuit and Sucker Punch.

Steel-types are good switch-ins because they resist Psychic and Ice Beam. Registeel is a fine option as it takes little damage from Thunderbolt or Hidden Power thanks to its high Special Defense stat. It can then set up Stealth Rock of its own and weaken Mesprit with Iron Head, cripple it with Thunder Wave, or KO it with Explosion. Magneton resists all of Mesprit's commonly used attacks, but risks getting 2HKOed by Specs Psychic and can be set up on by the Calm Mind set.

Clefable is another great counter to specially-based sets as it has a great HP stat and above average Special Defense. Access to Encore allows it to cripple Mesprit as is sets up Stealth Rock. Mesprit is unable to status Clefable due to Magic Guard, while Trick will usually leave Mesprit with a damaging Toxic Orb.

Physical sets are countered by Water-types such as Milotic and Slowbro; with their great defensive stats, they take little damage from most of Mesprit's moves. Slowbro is able to set up Calm Mind, while Milotic can cripple Mesprit with Toxic or Hypnosis. Again, both of these Pokémon must beware of Trick as they can be crippled with a useless Choice item.

    OU

Pokemon that resist the BoltBeam combination or take little damage from any specially based attack are great counters to Mesprit. Blissey is every special Pokemon's worst nightmare. With her mammoth HP stat and great Special Defense, she is able to wall Mesprit all day with no problem. Blissey is also able to weaken Mesprit with Seismic Toss as it is unable to recover its health without Rest.

Magnezone is another great option as it takes minor damage from Thunderbolt, Ice Beam, and Psychic, while it is able to hit Mesprit with a STAB Thunderbolt or take most of Mesprit's health with Explosion.

Tyranitar makes an excellent counter to Mesprit as it has an immunity to Mesprit's STAB Psychic, and it also takes a small amount of damage from the BoltBeam combination thanks to the Special Defense boost that sandstorm provides. Choice Band Tyranitar is able to OHKO Mesprit with Crunch 100% of the time, while Pursuit will also OHKO if Mesprit tries to escape.

Scizor makes another fine option as it takes little damage from Psychic or Ice Beam, while Thunderbolt only 4HKOes a Choice Band variant. U-turn will always OHKO Mesprit when Scizor is holding a Choice Band and Mesprit has taken damage from Stealth Rock. Scizor also has access to Pursuit in case Mesprit tries to switch.
